The Rave is such a core event to so many conventions within the community, just about each one has its own notoriaty to varying degrees. The Nan DesuKan Rave for me is one of those that I kept hearing about over the years, but only just recently got my chance to experience. All around it is a fun and welcoming environment, the community really is what makes this event what it is.

The NDK Rave took part on the Saturday of the convention weekend, towards the end of the main day's events had ended, staff setting it up as the convention starts to wind down. As the time nears or the rave to start, a line forms outside the main stage doors, everyone excited to listen to some good music and let loose on the dancefloor.

I think one of my favorite parts is seeing the varying Rave based cosplays of all varieties. Sometimes its just the normal cosplay, but many make alterations to better fit the rave environment, often more comfortable and breatable than the typical cosplay. Sometimes these are more simple, yet other times the complexity people put into their cosplays, even if there is less fabric, is honestly intriguing and fascinating what people do to express themselves in this way.

Once the doors finally open to the main stage, the waiting cosplayers start flooding in and spreading out as they bop their heads and start dancing to the music. The turnout wasn't actually thatlarge for the size of what the main stay of Nan Desu Kan is. This was honestly a bonus for myselfbecause it didn't feel too crowded and let people have the space they needed to really dance and get in tune with the music.

The main grouping of people was centered fairly close together around the stage itself, all bouncing together with the beat of the music, but periodically would open up. As the crowd started to open up, circles or one large one, would reveal themselves to which people would enter in and show off or challenge one another to a dance off. This is one of my favorite parts of the dancing itself as everyone shows support and cheers eah other on as different people enter in to the circle. Everyone just seemed to be hyping one another up as they showcased what they could do, no matter how simple or complex each dance move was.

Outside of the circles themselves people would go off into different corners of the room and do some danes that often required a bit more space. A few of the ones that I saw were those with glowing balls, wings or other similar objects that they interacted with. In the back of the room there was also a section for people to get their photos from the convention itself with the crowd of dancing cosplayers in the background.

For about three hours I roamed about the rave interacting with people, taking videos and pictures, even dancing a little bit. The energy remained high throughout the rave, even as people started to trickle out as the time went on. I always personally enjoy going to raves when conventions offer them as it gives people time to express themselves and release energy that may have been built up throughout the day.
